#GivingTuesday 2019

giving tuesday 2019 logoIn 1999, Flywheel started as a scrappy volunteer-run art space in a former cabinet store; we’ve grown a lot since the cabinet store days. We are currently rounding out our 20th(!) year in operation. It’s incredible that a donation-based community arts space has survived this span of time. This speaks volumes (pun-intended) about our value to this community, the dedication of our volunteers, and how our space allows for multiple generations of folks to engage in the arts.

This Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, we hope you consider making a meaningful donation to help us continue to provide a substance-free all-ages community arts space where art is valued over profit.

This past February we asked you, our community of supporters, to help with a rent backlog; the “Help Save Flywheel” crowdfunding-campaign raised over $10k in a few short days and provided immediate baseline operational support for us. This outpouring of support was incredible! However, we recently lost two sub-tenants who provided us with vital rental income of $3500 a year. This loss will open a significant hole in our budget which will need to be replenished in order to keep us financially healthy.

Your support this Giving Tuesday will help Flywheel continue to organize all-ages shows, host 3000+ zines in our zine library, hold film screenings, theater performances, art openings, children’s entertainment, and community fundraisers. Please head to our Giving Tuesday Mighty Cause page to make your tax-deductable donation today (you can find the link on our website: flywheelarts.org, too)!

Any amount you can give is important. However, if you can’t give now, there are additional ways you can help us continue to thrive:

  • Attend shows; we pay artists and take 1/3 for operating costs.
  • Rent our space; we have a great space for events. We’ve hosted birthdays, bar/bat mitzvahs, and weddings!
  • Become a sustaining member: There are many different membership levels, from $10 monthly to $35 annually, check our site for details: https://flywheelarts.org/about-flywheel/become-a-member/.

Be on the lookout for upcoming fundraising shows; your attendance is key to making these events successful. We are using these fundraising shows to help purchase new gallery lighting and maintain our PA system to help us compete with area for-profit music and arts spaces.

Thank you,

Your Flywheel Volunteers
